Open the scheduler
Choose Tools β Advertisement scheduler. It has two tabs:
- π Rules: what plays, how often, and when. Rules are listed on the left, and the one you pick opens on the right.
- Adverts list: your adverts, each with the dates and days it may run. Rules can play from this list.
Good to know: adverts and jingles never count as songs, so a rule for "every 4 songs" counts music only.
1. Add your adverts (optional)
If you sell airtime, put each advert on the Adverts list: press β Add advert, pick its audio file, and set the dates it runs from and to and the days of the week it may play. Each advert shows whether it's β running today and which rules play it. When a campaign ends, the advert simply stops being picked; there's nothing to remember to remove.
For jingles and station IDs you don't need the list: a rule can play straight from a folder.
2. Make a rule
On the Rules tab press β Advert rule or β Jingle rule. A rule is set up in three steps, top to bottom.
What plays
- From the Adverts list (advert rules): each advert plays only within its own dates and days. Best for paid adverts.
- From a folder or chosen files: choose a folder, or press β Add files to hand-pick files (chosen files are used instead of the folder). Best for jingles, IDs and promos.
Then choose how many to play each time and how to pick them: random, taking turns (each one in order, carrying on where it left off) or all of them.
3. Choose how often
| Trigger | Example | How it plays |
|---|---|---|
| After every N songs | After every 4 songs, play 1 jingle | Added straight after the song that starts. |
| Every N minutes or hours | Every 30 minutes, play 2 adverts | Queued after the song on air when the time comes; the song is never cut. |
| At set times | At 08:58, 12:58 and 17:58 | Queued after the song on air at each time. Press β Add time for more. |
For minutes and hours, on the clock means the times line up with the clock: every 30 minutes on the clock plays at :00 and :30. With it off, the next one is 30 minutes after the last time the rule played.
4. Set when it's in force
- Dates: from and to, with a calendar. Leave them empty to run all the time.
- Days: tick days, or use Every day, Weekdays or Weekends.
- Hours: all day, or from one hour until another. Ranges over midnight work, so from 22 until 6 covers the overnight show.
Each rule in the list shows β in force now or β waiting (outside its dates, days or hours), and the On / off switch turns a rule off without losing it.
Test it
- βΆ Play it now plays the rule's picks straight away.
- Queue them after the song on air adds them as the next rows, as if the rule had just gone off.
- Duplicate copies a rule, which is the quickest way to make a weekend version of a weekday rule.
More ways to use rules
- In the playlist generator: a rule can be a pattern step or a timed insert, so generated playlists carry your jingles and adverts already.
- From the event scheduler: the action Play adverts / jingles from a rule fires a rule at a set time, for example a sponsor's message before the news.
- As a command:
RULE Morning sponsorsin a playlist command row, a plugin or an event queues that rule's files after the song on air.
Proof of play
Every advert and jingle that plays is recorded. In Tools β Reports, choose adverts or jingles and a period (this week, last monthβ¦), click an item to see every time it played, and export a proof of play PDF for the advertiser with every air time, or a CSV that opens in Excel.
